Do you typically add labor in bulk (hours) to your proposals to keep things simple? Have you been struggling with delivery invoices?
We’ve come to recognzie that some of our community members don’t want to add labor to each item in their database; yet, they don’t want to deliver large quantities of labor at one time either. If you are one of those community members, we’ve come up with a solution that is easy and will make recognizing revenue much more accurate! Meaning, you can partially deliver labor!

.
Start by creating a non-inventory item – name it as you like – and create a category for Bulk Labor to make it easy to find when creating Proposals and COs. Be sure to add the appropriate labor phase to the item. You can create a bulk non-inventory item for each labor phase you will want to use in this manner. Be sure to categorize them all with Bulk Labor too.

Click Add Products in Designer then filter by Category Bulk Labor to isolate your bulk non-inventory labor items. Add all labor as appropriate for this design.

Enter the quantity of hours in Unit and leave the labor phase and hours as is. This is the magic trick that will allow you to deliver labor partially in lieu of being forced to deliver all labor on that line at the same time!
.
When you are ready to deliver any of this labor, navigate to Product>Product Manager>click on the box on the right hand side of the line and deliver as much as you’d like – just as you would with any other non-inventory item. Maybe it’s 20 hours this time and 5 next, it doesn’t matter though you can deliver what is currently appropriate so that your revenue is reflected correctly.

Now, when you create your delivery invoice, the delivered labor will appear. Syncing this to QB recongnizes that revenue and now you are keeping your books more accurately! Yay you!
